Position is full-time hourly (non-exempt) working with the Life Cycle Contractor Support for the National Training Center Instrumentation System (NTC-IS). The NTC-IS is located at Fort Irwin, CA, in the Mojave Desert, approximately forty miles northeast of Barstow, CA. NTC-IS operations support the NTC mission: to provide realistic joint and combined arms training focused on developing soldiers, leaders, and units of the United States military for success on the 21st Century Battle Field.

Position will provide support services with a full-time Information Systems Technician II to support network security for the JRTC and NTC CIS LAN, in direct coordination with the Training Analysis Computer Support and Simulation (TACSS) division, per the tasks outlined: Manage and operate the Core Instrumentation System (CIS) security system under the guidance of the Prime Contractor including system administration of the CIS, Firewall and intrusion detection systems. Cannidate will direct daily activities of system administrators. Assist in establishing internal work policies within department. Manage the patch and configuration management processes. Troubleshoot and investigate as directed anomalies that may be the result of malicious code attacks. Ensure the integrity of the CIS. Conduct backup and restore processes as needed to CIS and security devices. Troubleshoot, repair, and install various types of electronic equipment and related devices such as, Sun & other brands of Sparc architecture computers, IBM & Mac PC's, Fiber Optic cables (includes splicing and terminating), transmitters & receivers, Cabletron switchers, Hubs, LANs/ WANs, Ethernet, 10/100 Base T, Cat 5, Various peripheral devices such as Optical disk drives, Modems, Tape drives, Printers, Plotters, personal, mainframe computers and terminals; industrial and measuring equipment. Apply technical knowledge of electronics principals in determining equipment malfunctions, and applies skills in restoring equipment operations. Apply comprehensive technical knowledge to solve complex problems by interpreting manufacturers’ manuals or similar documents. Have familiarity with the interrelationships of circuits and judgment in planning work sequence and in selecting tools and testing instruments. Conduct functional testing consisting of performing operational and diagnostic checks and scheduled preventive maintenance, unscheduled (corrective) maintenance and repair; to include troubleshooting, replacement of faulty parts and realignment and check out of system; employment of a variety of specialized test equipment and complex electronic schematics and diagrams in conducting fault isolation, and use the data gained through the troubleshooting/repair process to prepare and revise maintenance instructions and procedures and to recommend and implement manufacturer/engineering changes for the Depot team. Cannidate will be able to operate computer for extended periods in an office environment. Cannidate will adhere to Company, Site Manager, Division Manager and Team leader directives, memoranda, policies and procedures. Cannidate will support quality/ISO, security and training programs. Cannidate will support other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of computer security principles, Army and DOD security requirements and Army Vulnerability Assessment Management (IAVM) program.
  • Knowledge of UNIX operating system, (preferably Solaris) intrusion detection systems, patch management, Anti-virus processes and best business practices requiring computer and network security.
  • Knowledge of computer security principles, network workings and security devices such as firewalls, intrusion detection systems, patch management, anti-virus processes and best business practices regarding computer and network security.
  • Knowledge of Army and DOD Security Requirements
  • Have Computer and security certifications such as CISSP, Cisco CCNA, Microsoft MCP or higher, Network + or other comparable certifications.
  • Hold at least one Technical Certification CCNA or Higher, Knowledge of UNIX and Cisco System, Microsoft windows
  • Must be able to perform duties and travel in extreme weather conditions (heat, cold, and wind) and at height (helicopter travel, mountain tops, elevated walk areas and towers).
  • Must have valid California driver license and maintain Post driving privileges.
  • Obtain Military licenses & Night Vision certification if required.
  • Travel off road in company 4x4 vehicles and military tactical vehicles if required.
  • Must be able to lift a maximum of 50 lbs and wear appropriate personal protective equipment.
  • Willing to work any shift to include weekends, Holidays and overtime.
  • Must be willing to travel 20% of the time.
  • Must be able to obtain a U.S. Government Security Clearance

Experience Required

  • Zero (0) to Two (2) years related experience

Education Required

  • Required Education: High School Diploma
  • Desired Education: B.S./B.A. in Engineering, Science, or Mathematic
